Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer !!
Congratulations to Blane Steckline for his Reserve Grand Champion placing at the Black and Gold Calf quest livestock show in Columbia Missouri. Casper has been his 4-h project all year and was reserve champion charolais at the Kansas State Fair. This was the last show for the year, everyone had a very successful show year and look forward to next year!
Thankful, Thanksgiving !!!
Six weeks after planting and 4 1/2 inches of rain later, our Winter Wheat Crop looks pretty good. This year we planted a three way mix of CJ, Billings and Endurance from Kauffman Seed, Haven, Ks. Tom Clayman recommended CJ because it jumps out of the ground and establishes tillering fast. I am very happy with the fall growth, we will see if the mixture turns out and puts bushels in the bin !
Silverline Genetics show cattle show up on the Steckline Ranch
Almost 30 head of Steer and Heifer show prospects have arrived and are being broke! Part of the process is a bath and hairdo in the Steckline beauty parlor !!! Most of the cattle are already sold however, Tess and Glen still have a few that are pretty good that don’t have a home. You can call Tess at 316-461-3523 or go to silverlinegenetics.com for info and pics….
Winter wheat crop is planted..
We got our wheat in the ground with adequate moisture the first week in October but quickly ran out. We received right at 2 inches of rain which made planting conditions perfect. The only problem, with as dry as it has been, our moisture ran out before we finished. We decided to wait to plant our last couple hundred acres till it rained. Crop emergence even with the nice moisture was fair to good. Some areas were dryer than others…..
